RAV Vast Drum D-major is a melodic metal instrument with a central bass tone and eight melodic tones arranged around it. The D-major tuning has a pleasant, open, and brighter major character. It is suitable for fluid melodic playing, gentle musical accompaniment, relaxation, and rhythmic motifs. RAV Vast has a rich, long-fading sound with distinct overtones. The tones harmonize beautifully with each other, and the instrument offers wide playing possibilities - from calm melodic flow to more lively rhythmic motifs.

RAV Vast was developed by Andrey Remyannikov as an instrument inspired by the handpan, but with its own unique construction and distinct sound. The tones are cut into the body of the instrument and supplemented with metal ribs inside, thanks to which they resonate for a long time. In addition to the fundamental tone, overtones can also be sounded on individual tones, which expand the instrument's tonal color and expressive possibilities.

It is played primarily with the hands - fingers, fingertips, or palms. Different ways of touching create a different sound, dynamics, and tone color. You can intuitively sound the instrument, search for your own melodic and rhythmic motifs, and gradually develop a feel for touch, rhythm, and dynamics.

The instrument has a brass edge and a protective finish that helps protect the metal from moisture. A transport bag can be purchased separately.

How to play the instrument

Place the RAV Vast in front of you or on your lap and sound the tones with your hands - finger pads, fingertips, or palms. A light touch will sound the tone, which fades for a long time. Depending on the strength, location, and method of touch, you can play gently, more expressively, melodically, and rhythmically.

With different strikes, overtones can also be sounded on individual tones. Thanks to this, RAV Vast offers a richer sound palette than standard tongue drums and gives space for gradually discovering your own playing style.
