Handpans by tuning
Each handpan is tuned to a specific scale. The central bass tone in the middle of the instrument (called the "ding") determines the key of the handpan. The most common is the key of D, but you can also choose from many handpans in lower or higher tunings. There are many scales within each tuning, each with its unique name.
You can listen to how each scale and tuning sounds in our demos and videos, and the tones of each scale are listed with each instrument.
A basic scale on a handpan has 9-10 tones, but there are also special multi-tone handpans, some of which can have up to 21 tones, opening a new dimension of musical creativity.
You can find more information and tips on how to decide in our article and video - How to choose a handpan.
