ABOUT THE INSTRUMENT

SAVITA stainless steel handpan with diatonic tuning offers an open and harmonious tonal palette.

It contains a full diatonic scale spread across several octaves, allowing both gentle, meditative playing and rich melodic and harmonic expression. Thanks to the presence of all seven scale tones (C, D, E, F, G, A, B), the instrument is exceptionally versatile – ideal for improvisation, melody composition, vocal accompaniment, and sound therapy. The low notes B2 and C3 add depth and grounding to the sound, while the higher notes provide bright and emotionally expressive tonal possibilities.

Stainless steel gives the instrument a long sustain and rich overtones, so every touch of the hand creates a flowing sound that carries beautifully through space.

It is an instrument that gives the player musical freedom – more than typical pentatonic handpans, yet still with a naturally harmonious character that supports smooth and inspiring play.

INTERESTING FACTS

Handpan, also known as Pantam or Hang drum, is a musical instrument whose roots date back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At that time, in the regions of Trinidad and Indonesia, the first attempts at melodic instruments made of metal (barrels and metal containers) appeared – known as steeldrums. These instruments had multiple notes tuned to different scales around the rim and were usually played with mallets.

The first instruments resembling today’s handpan appeared around the year 2000 in Switzerland – developed by the company Panart and named Hang or Hang drum (“hang” means “hand” in the Swiss dialect). Panart no longer produces these instruments, and since then dozens of other makers have gradually emerged.

Handpan is an instrument you can enjoy playing alone at home, while also being suitable for top-level virtuosic concert performance, combining it with other instruments or additional handpans. Learning to play the handpan begins with basic tone-producing techniques and their combinations, elementary rhythmic structures, and continues with more advanced techniques, more complex rhythms, and creative improvisation possibilities. You can learn all of this with us during lessons with Pavel Sedláček.

Savita Handpans are our own instruments, into which we have projected the very best we know in the field of handpans: beautiful sound, elegant design, and of course an attractive price.
