INTERESTING FACTS
Handpan, also known as Pantam or Hang drum, is a musical instrument whose roots trace back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At that time, in regions like Trinidad and Indonesia, the first attempts at melodic instruments made of metal (barrels and metal containers) emerged, which became known as "steeldrum". These instruments featured multiple tones tuned to different scales around the perimeter and were mostly played with mallets.
The first instruments resembling today's handpan appeared around 2000 in Switzerland. They were developed by the company Panart and named Hang or Hang drum ("hang" means "hand" in Swiss dialect). Panart no longer manufactures these instruments, and since then, dozens of other manufacturers have emerged.
Handpan is an instrument you can enjoy playing at home or at top-tier virtuoso concert levels, combining it with other instruments or additional handpans. Learning to play the handpan begins with basic techniques for producing tones and their combinations, elementary rhythmic structures, and advances to more complex techniques, sophisticated rhythmic structures, and creative improvisation. You can learn all this through lessons with Pavel Sedláček.
Savita Handpans are our own instruments, embodying the best we know in the world of handpans: beautiful sound, stunning design, and, of course, an attractive price.
