Psaltery

Classic bowed instruments are extremely demanding in terms of playing technique and control, requiring years of training to produce sounds that are even remotely pleasant... The only exception is the modern variation of the medieval psalterium (or psalter). On this instrument, each string is tuned to one specific note, and these strings can then be easily played with a bow. The result is beautiful, resonant notes and melodies with gentle resonances and a long sustain.
