Kalimba
The kalimba is an instrument in the percussion family. It is a modernized version of the southern African mbira. It is a sound box with metal keys attached to the top to give the different notes. It is also known as the African thumb piano in the West, is a lamellaphone of Eastern Central and South West Africa. Traditionally used to accompany singing in Africa, the kalimba was relatively easy to play, and became popular in the West for instrumental music. The kalimba is played by holding the instrument in the hands and plucking the tines with the thumbs.
The kalimbas we offer are precisely tuned in various scales and tonal modes.
