The Meaning of the Symbols on This Bowl

This Tibetan bowl is a true artistic and spiritual artifact – its inner space is decorated with delicately engraved motifs that carry profound meaning from Buddhist and Tibetan tradition. The mantra OM MANI PADME HUM — around the circumference of the bowl are engraved the syllables of this most famous Tibetan mantra, which is closely associated with Avalokiteshvara. Each syllable has its own meaning and affects a different aspect of being:

NI – purifies the mind
PAD – purifies ignorance
ME – purifies desire and attachment
HUM – anchors wisdom and compassion in action
