ABOUT THE INSTRUMENT

A five-tone balafon with keys made of mahogany wood.

The balafon is a traditional African all-wood percussion instrument similar to a xylophone. It is pentatonically tuned, and under each key, there is a resonant calabash gourd that ensures the instrument's resonance. The mahogany wood keys are dried over a large bonfire for 2 weeks to ensure the proper wood consistency. This impressive balafon comes from the west coast of Africa, from The Gambia.

Wooden mallets with rubber tips are included in the price.
