INTERESTING FACTS

Handpan, also known as Pantam or Hang drum, is a musical instrument whose roots go back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At that time, in the area of Trinidad and Indonesia, the first attempts were made to create melodic instruments made of metal (barrels and metal containers) - which became known as "steeldrum". These instruments had multiple tones around the perimeter tuned to different scales and were mostly played with mallets.

The first instruments in the form of today's handpan appeared around the year 2000 in Switzerland - developed by the company Panart, and the instrument was named Hang or Hang drum ("hang" means "hand" in the Swiss dialect). However, Panart has long since stopped producing these instruments, and since then, dozens of other manufacturers have gradually appeared.

Handpan is an instrument that you can enjoy at home alone and that can also be played at top virtuoso concert levels, combined with other instruments, additional handpans, etc. Learning to play the handpan begins with basic tone creation techniques and their combinations, elementary rhythmic structures, and continues with advanced techniques, more complex rhythmic structures, and also the possibilities of creative improvisation. All this can be learned during lessons with Pavel Sedláček.
